Ahhh children. The cutest reason I can think of that has caused me to take to my usual primping and preening routine with a jagged hacksaw. There have been days, more than I care to admit, when I’ve realised once in the car that I’ve not only neglected to wash my face but also apply any deodorant. Sad but true fact. I now have a tube stashed in the glovebox, alongside the baby wipes, for this very emergency, so while I may have the pallor of a slightly anaemic ghost, I don’t smell like a 15 year old high school kid which I’m completely taking as a win.

On the days however when my neurons are firing and I manage to either shower OR wash my face, I’ve got a pretty schmick routine that see’s me looking if not polished, generally presentable to the general public. It seems all my years working at the forefront of beauty (similar to working at the forefront of science or industry I assume but with more serum) have given me the ability to pare back to the absolute bare essentials that are not only super effective but quick and easy to use and apply.

Here’s what I do.

CLEANSE with Sukin Organic Cream Cleanser and my Clarisonic Cleansing Brush. Not only does this ‘wake up’ my face, it gently exfoliates leaving my skin that little bit smoother and ‘glowier’. It also generally means I have to apply less treatment/beauty product afterwards cos I’ve gotten rid of all the dead cells just hanging out on the surface of my face.

APPLY Antipodes Divine Face Oil. My obsession with rosehip based face oils isn’t anything new. I would bathe in the stuff if I could (I actually have in the past.. well a few drops of the stuff in the bath anyway). I apply this of a morning as it doesn’t have anything active in it that might react badly with the sun, plus it leaves my skin lovely and dewy (if you’re a fan of the matte look, facial oils of a morning may not be the way to go).

APPLY Natio Pure Mineral BB Cream. Love me a good BB and I’ve been having a dalliance with this guy for the past 6 weeks or so. Great colour for those of us sporting a moon tan, mineral based with a light level of coverage (I prefer my tinted moisturisers/BB’s to be on the sheer side).

WHACK some Model Co Cheek And Lips tint to my cheeks and lips (bettcha couldn’t work that out on your own), a smidge of mascara (I’m currently using Rimmel ScandalEYES.. Can’t beat a good makeup based pun) and a slick of my beloved Lanolips 101 Ointment and I’m ready to rock and roll and take on the day.

What about you? I’d love to hear what your daily essentials are for looking (and feeling) halfway human. Feel free to share in the comments.

Ooh, I like the look of the cheek and lips thingy. I am on the hunt for a good moisturiser that doesn’t cost a fortune.
I’ve lately been using the Body Shop chamomile cleansing butter in the evening and loving it, as it leaves my skin so soft after I rinse it off.
