I’m back on the smoothie bandwagon in a big way friends. I wrote a few weeks ago about how the cooler weather had seen me shift from frothy drinks to warming foods like porridge and granola (you can read about that HERE) BUT lately, I’ve rekindled my love affair with ‘meals in a glass’ in a big way. There was THIS little beauty two and a bit weeks ago which had me completely besotted and pretty much chained to my blender but it has now been super seeded by Monday’s ‘throw a whole load of good stuff in a glass and blend it up’ creation. And that really is how this sweet, rich, chocolatey confection came about.

I’ve been trying to up the healthy quotient in my diet since realising that I’d kind of let things lapse. To this end, I’ve been looking for sneaky shortcuts where I can pile a whole bunch of nourishment on my body, without huge amounts of effort. The smoothie is one of these shortcuts. When else can you literally scoop a bit of this and a pinch of that into a glass, press a button and create a meal that both satisfied and nourishes? The answer is RARELY and this is the key reason I’m so in love.

This glass of deliciousness combines a few of my favouritest things; organic yoghurt (I am passionately devoted to Barambah Organics), berries, raw cacao and chia, along with a couple of other ingredients that proudly wear the superfood label, namely maca and traditional rolled oats. Add an egg, a pinch of cinnamon and a drizzle of vanilla essence and you’ve got yourself a smoothie that’s rich in protein and super high in both vitamins and antioxidants. This guy is also the proud owner of some mad, hormone balancing skillz (due to the maca component), as well as a serving of low GI, complex carbs (from the oats).

Without any further rambling, let’s get right down into the ingredients.

Ingredients
  • 2 tbsp organic, full fat yoghurt
  • 1 egg, organic and free range ideally
  • 1.5 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp maca powder
  • 1 tbsp rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 tbsp stevia
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • A few drops of vanilla essence
Method

Blend it all up and DRINK IT DOWN. Yum!
